Achievements

Wanted achievemets & what was achieved and what wasnt achieved;

The main aim that I wanted to achieve for my Fine Dining Restaurants website was a personalised and professional looking site. I think this was achieved with the use of an automated template where the header was very easy to edit. Replacing the existing header graphic with graphics of my choice along with my logo of “Fine Dining Restaurants” gives it the personalised touch.

The automated search to the right of my page is a vital addition to the site, it allows users to quickly find something that they are looking for without having to browse the whole site.

The navigation system turned out well and did what I wanted it to with the main menu along the top and having a breadcrumb feature so the user knows the path they have used to get to where they currently are. The hierarchy of menus is useful, this would have been good if it would show when hovering over the main menu, but after making the whole site I realised it was nice to have the second menu to the left of the page.

The booking calendar with availability didn’t turn out how I wanted. My idea was users would choose an available date using the calendar and then subsequently get given an option of available times for them to carry out the booking. As this feature was impossible to achieve I had to resort to creating a lookalike calendar simply using a table, obviously this hasn’t the features desired but looks like it could have if activated.

The contact us page I had to create myself using html and embedding the code using the embed code widget. It would have been ideal to have used the same style form as on the feedback page for the site to maintain a professional look, but due to this being automatically generated the fields could not be altered in anyway. The feedback comment feature is an automated page generated using Webnode which was partly useful but again would have been useful to have the option of editing a little.

The photo gallery again was an automated page and very simple to use and achieve my goal, all that was needed was for me to upload my own photos.

The sample menus turned out as I wanted very simple and easy to navigate around.

I wanted the ability to plot multi points within a map to show all locations of the Fine Dining Restaurants, but after trying to embed code from Google earth and creating my own KML files which showed multiple points and neither option actually working when embedding the code using the widget I had to resort to 3 different maps to show the restaurants.

I was most impressed with the follow us article I added to the left of each page to allow users to follow Fine Dining Restaurants on Facebook and/or Twitter, because I simply added in pictures of the Facebook and Twitter logo for users to relate to and Webnode automatically linked this feature to the actual Facbook and Twitter sites and the share option, which allows the site to be shared on other sites.

I inserted a virtual tour of a restaurant into the about us page to show more use of widgets, the widget used was the Youtube one.

One last thing that I had hoped to achieve was featured advertisement I had hoped this would be put to the blank space on the right of my page, I wasnt to sure how I was going to achieve this, there was a widget for Google Adsense, but unfortunately I ran out of time to explore this.
